Recycle Your Cell Phone to Help the Poor

Recycling your cell phone doesn’t just keep hazardous materials out of landfills, it can be used to help the less fortunate rise out of poverty.

Recycling your cell phone doesn’t just keep hazardous materials out of landfills, it can be used to help the less fortunate rise out of poverty. If you send it to the Chiapas Project in one of their postage-paid envelopes the organization recycles it and distributes the revenue as low-interest loans to impoverished women around the world. These women then use the funds to create their own businesses or projects such as purchasing cows to sell milk or raw materials to make textiles for sale.

Green Mountain has partnered with the Chiapas Project to include their postage-paid envelopes in our welcome kits for new customers since 2009. Since then our customers’ recycling efforts through this program have raised over $10,000 for this worthy non-profit.
