Green Mountain Energy Company and Standard Renewable Energy have partnered to install a solar array for Workshop Houston, a non-profit organization that provides after school programs to Houston youth, located at 3615 Sauer Street in the Third Ward.
Installation of the 2.26 kilowatt (kW) solar array took place on January 24, 2009
The solar array was installed by Standard Renewable Energy and made possible by the donations from members of Green Mountain’s Big Texas Sun Club®.
The 165-square-foot solar array is mounted on the facility’s rooftop and consists of 11 Kyocera solar panels that convert sunlight into pollution-free electricity.
The Green Mountain Energy® Solar at Workshop Houston is helping to power approximately 13 percent of the facility’s annual electrical usage.
The solar array can annually offset more than 5,900 pounds of carbon dioxide (C02), a greenhouse gas that is a leading contributor of global warming. This has the same environmental impact of not driving a car almost 6,554 miles or the annual sequestration from more than 354 trees.
