Green Mountain Energy® Solar at Satori Elementary
School Galveston
About the Project
Satori Elementary School and Green Mountain Energy Company have partnered to install a solar array for the school located at 2503 Sealy St., Galveston.
The Green Mountain Energy® Solar at Satori Elementary School is 2.8 kilowatt (kW) and was installed in April 2009.
It is Galveston’s first solar-powered school and will help educate students about the benefits of solar energy through a monitoring website.
The 440-square-foot solar array is mounted on the building’s roof and was built with 16 photovoltaic (PV) solar panels that convert sunlight into electricity, producing about 5,500 kW of clean energy annually.
The solar array will offset 7,300 pounds of carbon dioxide (C02) annually. C02 is a greenhouse gas that is a leading contributor of global warming. This has the same environmental impact of the annual sequestration from nearly 440 trees.
