Green Mountain Energy® Solar at the Heard Museum—McKinney
About the Project
Dedicated in 2005
Donated by Green Mountain Energy Company’s Big Texas Sun Club®
The 6 kW array helps offset about 15,600 lbs of CO2 a year, which is equivalent to not driving over 17,000 miles; it would take over 900 trees to remove this much CO2 from the air annually
Helps the museum save on its energy bill, too

Mission is three-fold: education, conservation and preservation. Through education, particularly for young people, the Heard emphasizes an appreciation of nature and its conservation
Founded by Miss Bessie Heard who devoted most of her lifetime (1886-1988) to the city of McKinney and its people. At the age of 80 she saw the need to preserve a place where future generations could visit to experience nature
