Green Mountain Energy® Solar at the Winston School—Dallas
About the Project
Dedicated in May, 2002
Made possible through the support of Green Mountain Energy Company’s Big Texas Sun Club®
Serves as an educational tool for students as they learn about the environment and ways that they can make the earth a cleaner place
58 kW takes up approximately 6,600 square feet of roof space — larger than an Olympic-sized swimming pool
The Winston School incorporates real-time data from this solar array into their curriculum
The school explores the economic impact and cost savings produced by the array as energy is fed into the Texas power grid
Each year, this array prevents the emission of approximately 146,000 pounds of CO2—a major contributor to global warming, which is the equivalent to not driving a car approximately 162,000 miles or roundtrip from Dallas to Houston 324 times
It would take about 8,700 trees one year to remove that much CO2 from the air
