Green Mountain Energy® Solar at Habitat for Humanity—Houston
About the Project
Dedicated in May, 2003
Array was donated by Green Mountain Energy Company’s Big Texas Sun Club®
1.2 kW located on the roof of a Habitat for Humanity home in Houston
Array offsets about 3,100 lbs of CO2 a year, which is as much CO2 as a car produces in 3,400 miles; it would take 188 trees an entire year to remove this much CO2 from the air
The occupants of the home are the Omar family, who immigrated to Houston in September 1997 from Somalia
The array also helps the family save a little bit on their electricity bill each year
The house was funded and built by the 2003 graduating class of St. John's High School after raising the needed $50,000 to build the home
