1 kW solar array funded by Green Mountain Energy Company’s Big Texas Sun Club®: offsets about 2,600 pounds of carbon dioxide (CO2) a year, which is the equivalent not driving 2,900 miles
One of 31 schools participating in the Texas Solar for Schools program
Has a monitor that transfers data to a site on the internet that allows students to see how much electricity is being generated
Is incorporated into the curriculum and used as a teaching tool on renewable energy and the environment
Helps the school reduce its CO2 emissions and save energy and money
About Dallas ISD Environmental Education Center
Opened in the late 1970s and located in southeast Dallas County in Seagoville, TX
Offers programs designed to extend and enrich the state and local schools’ curriculum
Consists of 500 acres of natural Texas habitat and includes interactive displays, nature trails, plants, animals, exhibits, laboratories, a greenhouse and various gardens
Museum portion of the center includes a large orientation theater and a variety of instructive exhibits that focus on the actual ecosystems at the Environmental Center site
