Renewable Rewards Buy-Back Program

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Green Mountain Energy Company offer credit (“net metering”) for energy that my home system may deliver back to the electricity grid?
Yes. Green Mountain is offering its customers credit for any excess energy that their qualifying distributed renewable generation facility exports to the electricity grid. For the first 500 kWh per month, the credit will be the same per kWh rate that Green Mountain charges for the Renewable Rewards product. For any excess energy beyond 500 kWh per month, the buy-back credit rate will be reduced by 50%. The credit is exclusive of any monthly service charge, TDSP advanced meter surcharge, applicable taxes and fees or other charges. Only customers who meet all of the criteria and are enrolled on the Renewable Rewards product can be eligible for this reimbursement.

What do I need to do to participate in the program?
There are three important requirements:

  1. You must have an Interconnection Agreement in place with your TDSP.
  2. You must have a meter installed by your TDSP that separately measures the in-flow and out-flow of electricity to and from your home. (Your TDSP may charge for this meter, which would be passed through to you on your Green Mountain Energy electricity bill.)
  3. You must be enrolled on Green Mountain’s Renewable Rewards product.

The first two steps require that you work directly with your TDSP to ensure that your system is safely connected to the grid and that your energy consumption and excess production are being accurately measured, accounted for, and sent to Green Mountain with your monthly meter reads.

Can current Green Mountain customers enroll on Renewable Rewards or is it only for new customers just signing up with Green Mountain?

Both current customers and new customers who meet the program requirements can enroll in Renewable Rewards. If current customers are enrolled on a contract product with a cancellation fee, we will waive that fee if the customer would like to transfer to the Renewable Rewards product, assuming all the required criteria are met.

When can I expect to see the credits on my bill for out-flow power?

Credits for out-flow power will be applied with a one-month delay to allow for proper processing. For example, if Green Mountain receives a meter reading from your TDSP on February 3rd which shows 1,000 kWh of usage and 500 kWh of out-flow power, a bill will be automatically generated and mailed to you for the total 1,000 kWh of usage. The out-flow power will be tracked and on your next monthly billing statement (in March), you will receive a credit for the 500 kWh of out-flow power.

Is it possible to get credit for my entire usage amount? If I produce more than I use, will I get a credit for the entire amount produced?

Yes.
