Green Mountain's Valley Presence

Green Mountain sells cleaner, renewable energy products to residents and businesses throughout competitive markets in Texas that have a choice in their retail electric provider. The company was the first Texas retail electric provider to offer cleaner energy when electricity competition began in 2001 and has been fully operational in the Valley since then – offering residents in areas such as McAllen, Harlingen, Pharr, Donna, Weslaco, Edinburg, and San Benito electricity that is cleaner than typical system power.

In 2007, Green Mountain began actively selling in the Valley through a “soft” direct sales launch. The company’s direct sales efforts include door-to-door canvassing, tabling at local retailers, such as HEB Grocery Stores, and participating at local fairs, festivals and entertainment events, like Border Fest, throughout the Valley. In spring of 2008, Green Mountain launched a multi-media, bilingual advertising campaign to reach out to Valley residents. The company has regularly run local ad campaigns since that time. Additionally, to better reach the region’s Spanish speaking residents, Green Mountain created a dedicated toll-free number, 1-888-9-VIENTO that is staffed by bilingual sales representatives, and developed Spanish web pages on www.greenmountain.com.

Green Mountain donated a 10.08 kilowatt (kW) solar array system to Texas State Technical College – Harlingen in August 2009. The solar array was the first donated and built in the Valley as a result of the company’s Big Texas Sun Club® and is expected to save the college more than $300,000 in electricity costs over its 30-year lifetime. The array is also being used as a teaching tool for several classes.

“We want to send a message to Valley residents that we are committed to South Texas – now and for years to come,” said Montelongo.
