Sundance Square Receives 2010 Green Power Leadership Award

SUNDANCE SQUARE RECEIVES 2010 GREEN POWER LEADERSHIP AWARD

Company receives Best Promotional Campaign Award by a Green Power Purchaser from

Center for Resource Solutions

FORT WORTH, Texas — Sundance Square, one of the nation’s premier mixed-use developments¸ is being recognized nationally for its ongoing commitment to advance renewable energy. Sundance Square will receive a green power leadership award tonight from the Center of Resource Solutions (CRS) at a ceremony during Renewable Energy Markets 2010 in Portland, Ore. The annual conference is co-sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

CRS’ Best Promotional Campaign by a Green Power Purchaser Award is a national award that honors an organization that has purchased or generated green power and has actively promoted its use of green power in a compelling way.  Sundance Square is receiving this award for its renewable energy promotional campaign that includes co-branded advertising, event sponsorship, on-site signage,  electric cars, event green power sales, and offsetting holiday tree lighting with renewable energy certificates.

As a green power consumer, Sundance Square is purchasing over 620,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of renewable energy annually from Green Mountain Energy Company, the nation’s leading competitive retail provider of cleaner energy. According to the U.S. EPA, Sundance Square was the largest green power purchaser in Texas among EPA’s real estate partners and the second largest nationally in the real estate industry at the time of its initial purchase. Since Sundance Square began purchasing green power in 2008, it has avoided at estimated 2.77 million pounds of carbon dioxide (C02), which is equivalent to taking nearly 87,000 cars off the road.

Sundance Square and Green Mountain jointly promote Sundance Square’s green power purchase to influence a variety of stakeholders and visitors through an innovative campaign that includes co-branded advertising, event sponsorship, on-site signage, electric cars, event green power sales, and offsetting Sundance Square’s holiday tree lights with Renewable Energy Credits.  As a result of Sundance Square’s ongoing promotion of its renewable energy purchase, thousands of the development’s employees and visitors have purchased renewable energy for their homes from Green Mountain.

“Sundance Square is extremely honored to receive this award from the Center of Resource Solutions,” said Johnny Campbell, president and CEO of Sundance Square. “Sundance Square is committed to supporting renewable energy and running its business as a sustainable organization.”

"CRS is pleased to recognize Sundance Square with this year's Green Power Market Leadership award," said Arthur O'Donnell, executive director of Center for Resource Solutions.  "The variety and consistency of Sundance Square's message promoting its commitment to renewable energy is a powerful testimony that multiplies the positive impact to millions of people who live, shop and visit there."

CRS co-sponsors the Green Power Leadership Awards with the EPA’s Green Power Partnership and the DOE. The annual awards ceremony recognizes outstanding commitments and achievements in the green power market. The EPA presents its Purchasers awards to recognize exceptional achievement among EPA Green Power Partners, and the Supplier awards are presented by the U.S. DOE and recognize exceptional achievement among organizations that supply green power to end-use customers.
