Green Mountain Energy™ Sun Club™ Donates $285,000 to Non-Profits in Texas for Solar Installations

Names of nine recipients revealed, solar energy installations to begin in 2014

Austin, TX
– The Green Mountain Energy™ Sun Club™ embarked upon a “Solar Road Trip” today to donate  a total of $285,000 to nine non-profit organizations across Texas for solar energy and educational content. Over the next week, the Sun Club team will visit many of these recipients to recognize the work they do and present them with a check to help install onsite solar projects in 2014. The Sun Club is a unique program enabling Green Mountain Energy Company’s customers and employees to contribute funds to non-profits to install solar energy and provide renewable energy education.

The Sun Club program has donated over $2.3 million and 600 kilowatts of solar power to more than 50 non-profits since 2002. These solar donations continue to give back to non-profits for years after the initial installation as they consistently help reduce electricity costs, enabling these organizations to better serve the community. By harnessing the power of the sun, non-profits have access to an abundant, pollution-free source of electricity: more energy from the sun falls on the earth in one hour than is used by everyone in the world in one year.

“Green Mountain has been providing renewable energy to homes and businesses with the mission to change the way power is made since 1997. The Sun Club has furthered that mission by helping to build solar energy systems for non-profits,” said Tony Napolillo, Sun Club Program Manager. “One by one, we’ve worked with incredible organizations to support sustainable best practices, educate on renewable energy, and contribute to the important work they do in each of their communities. These projects are a testament to our customers’ and employees’ long-lasting commitment to renewable energy, and we look forward to an even brighter future.”
