Progressive Companies Partner to Help Consumers Reduce Their Energy Consumption and Utility Bills
HOUSTON, Texas November 28, 2007 With more and more consumers focused on reducing both their utility bills and environmental impact, the demand for new ways to cut energy consumption is at an all time high. Recognizing this need, Green Mountain Energy Company, Texas’ first renewable energy provider, has partnered with Houston-based NewPoint Energy Solutions, a division of Standard Renewable Energy, to offer discounted energy audits to Green Mountain’s Houston, Dallas and Fort Worth residential customers.
Starting today Green Mountain customers can sign up for the audits by contacting NewPoint at 866-663-9764 or visiting
www.newpointenergy.com/greenmountain.
Under the agreement, Green Mountain customers will receive a $100 discount on the price of an introductory NewPoint energy audit (reducing the cost from $200 to $100). The audit cost is often recouped in energy savings as a typical Texas residential customer can achieve as much as a 25 to 30 percent reduction in annual energy consumption by following energy audit recommendations.
“Energy audits are something our customers have asked for,” said Paul Markovich, senior vice president of Residential Services, Green Mountain Energy Company. “As the longest serving green power provider in the nation and Texas’ only electricity provider dedicated to cleaner energy, our customers depend on us to provide them with a myriad of ways to improve their lives and their planet. Discounted energy audits from NewPoint Energy Solutions are yet another resource we are offering our customers to aid them in their ongoing effort to make a difference for the environment.”
NewPoint’s standard energy audit takes roughly 1.5 hours and includes an interior and exterior review of the home by a NewPoint Home Energy Consultant. The audit includes a building envelope inspection, review of the age and condition of the HVAC equipment and air distribution system, review of lighting, insulation, windows and air infiltration and an examination of past utility bills. Upon completion of the audit, NewPoint will provide recommendations on how to improve energy efficiency, such as updating weather stripping, duct repair and servicing the air conditioning unit.
“There are currently limited resources available to consumers for evaluating and improving their energy efficiency,” said Jordan Frugé, vice president, business development, NewPoint Energy Solutions. “Working with Green Mountain will change this, helping homeowners throughout Texas identify how they may be wasting energy and quickly and cost-effectively make the relevant adjustments.”
In addition to providing a reduced rate on a standard audit, NewPoint will also be offering Green Mountain customers a $250 discount on a comprehensive audit (reducing the cost from $750 to $500). The comprehensive audit has all the elements of a standard audit as well as a blower-door test and thermographic inspection (infrared photography) to identify hard-to-find energy leaks.
