Green Mountain Energy Company Offers Reliable Rate Options For Pollution Free and Wind Products
Electricity Consumers in Texas can now Ensure a Twelve-Month Guaranteed Rate for Clean Electricity
Austin, TX — March 11, 2005 — Green Mountain Energy Company, the nation's leading residential provider of cleaner electricity, announced today its introduction of Reliable Rate options for its Texas residential customers. With the Reliable Rate option, pricing for the company's Pollution Freesm and 100% Wind products can now be locked in at a guaranteed rate for a 12-month period, protecting against price uncertainty and a volatile energy market.
"There is a fair amount of volatility in the price of electricity," said John Savage, senior vice president of marketing for Green Mountain Energy Company. "By offering a Reliable Rate option for our clean electricity products, we are giving customers a way to protect themselves against TXU and Reliant raising prices for the next twelve months."
The Pollution Free and 100% Wind products are priced at a variable rate that changes as the incumbent electricity provider's Price To Beat changes. In the case of Pollution Free, the price will equal the Price to Beat, and with 100% Wind the price will be one penny more per kilowatt-hour than the Price to Beat. With the Reliable Rate option, the price will be set based on what the Price to Beat is at the time of sign up and will not change for one year.
Savage added, "Texans that live in an area where they can choose their electric provider can now choose a pollution-free option at no extra cost and at a guaranteed rate for twelve months. We're finding that the choice of clean versus dirty at the same price is obvious to customers. We also see that when folks are informed and educated about the impact electricity generation has on air quality, they tend to make decisions that lead to healthier lifestyles and an improved quality of life."
In a recent survey commissioned by Green Mountain Energy Company and conducted by Copernicus Research in Newton, Mass., only five percent of Texas adults and two percent of Texas teens surveyed correctly identified electricity production as the leading cause of air pollution in the state. Moreover, a larger percentage of respondents identified air pollution as the number one environmental issue in the state of Texas. The survey was conducted online in September of 2004 to 1,007 adults and 500 teens age 12-17 in Texas.
