Green Mountain Energy Company and The Heard Museum Team Up on Solar Project

Dallas, TX — December 15, 2005 — Green Mountain Energy Company, one of the nation's leading retail providers of cleaner electricity, and the Heard Museum in McKinney, Texas have teamed up to promote clean energy awareness in North Dallas by installing a 6-kilowatt (kW) solar array at the museum.

Green Mountain Energy Company raises funds for solar projects through its Big Texas Sun Club®, a voluntary program customers can join for a nominal fee each month. To date nearly ten solar projects have been built due to the Big Texas Sun Club. The Big Texas Sun Club has been responsible for creating about 118 kW of new solar in Texas.

"We feel this is an important partnership," said John Ernst, executive director of The Heard Museum. "Conservation is an important part of our message to guests that come and visit us here. By using and promoting renewable sources of energy, we do our part to help address a problem that can have a significant impact on ecosystems around the world."

This is the first time the Heard Museum has had a solar array installed. The 6 kW solar array will help offset about 17,000 pounds of carbon dioxide (CO2), a greenhouse gas that contributes to global warming, annually. To put it in layman's terms, this would be like not driving over 19,000 miles. It would take over 1,000 trees to remove this much CO2 from the air annually. The array will also help the Museum save on its electricity bill each year.

"This is a great opportunity for us to continue our education campaign in Texas around renewable energy and give something back to the community," said Paul Markovich, senior vice president of sales, for Green Mountain Energy Company. "We are looking forward to our continued relationship with The Heard Museum as we continue our mission to change the way power is made."

Green Mountain Energy Company has been offering 100 percent pollution-free electricity in Texas since April of 2001, with Dallas being one of the more successful markets.
