Upper Trinity Regional Water District Extends Environmental Efforts to Electricity Purchase
Austin, TX October 1, 2004 The Upper Trinity Regional Water District, Lewisville, announced today its purchase of cleaner electricity from Texas-based Green Mountain Energy Company, the nation's largest retail provider of cleaner energy.
Because commercial electricity from Green Mountain Energy Company is generated exclusively from wind and natural gas, it is cleaner than typical system power available in Texas. Upper Trinity will be purchasing the electricity for its water and wastewater treatment plants in Lewisville and in Lake Dallas. Upper Trinity's purchase of cleaner energy from Green Mountain Energy Company will help prevent the release of nearly 1,200 tons of carbon dioxide (C0
2), a greenhouse gas, into the air each year equivalent to not driving over 2.6 million miles annually.
Thomas E. Taylor, Executive Director for the water district said, "Upper Trinity Regional Water District made the decision to purchase electricity from Green Mountain Energy Company because the use of cleaner energy is very much in line with our environmental protection efforts around the sources of our drinking water supplies." He added, "As the regional water utility for the Denton County area, we routinely try to prevent pollution of water supplies; now, with purchase of electricity generated from wind power and natural gas, we will also help prevent air pollution."
"This is another example of an organization realizing it can spend the public's money wisely while at the same time purchase a cleaner electricity product," said Scott Hart, president of commercial services for Green Mountain Energy Company. "We want to continue to reinforce this mantra with commercial customers in the markets we serve: It's easy to make a smart electricity choice by saving money and buying a product that is better for the environment."
Hart added, "Our cleaner electricity products, coupled with the competitive rates we are offering to many Texas businesses, make choosing Green Mountain Energy
® electricity an extremely compelling proposition."
By purchasing a cleaner electricity product from Green Mountain Energy Company, the Upper Trinity Regional Water District is helping increase the demand for new renewable facilities that in the long term could benefit the environment.
