What is the Nest Learning Thermostat?

Just like Green Mountain is a different kind of electricity provider, Nest is a new kind of thermostat. It’s your personal energy assistant designed to help you save without changing your lifestyle.

  • Auto-Schedule™ learns what temperatures you like and programs itself.
  • Auto-Away™ turns Nest down when you’re gone.
  • The Nest Leaf™ tells you if you’re saving energy.
  • Energy History tracks your heating and cooling energy use.
  • Seasonal Savings notifies you when it’s adjusting your temperatures for more energy savings. It will only change a few degrees at most and you can always change the temperature if you don’t like it.
  • Connect the Nest Thermostat to Wi-Fi to control it from your smartphone, tablet and laptop.

The Nest Thermostat works in most homes. Make sure it’s compatible with your heating and cooling system at nest.com/works/gme.

Three out of four Nest customers install the Nest Thermostat themselves in 30 minutes or less. Or, sit back and relax - a Nest Certified Professional in your area can take care of the installation for you. Get more info from nest.com/install.

Other benefits for Green Mountain customers

I’ve heard about Rush Hour Rewards. Can I get that as a Green Mountain customer?

While we don’t offer Rush Hour Rewards, we do offer Seasonal Savings, which is an exclusive benefit to Green Mountain customers enrolled on the Pollution Free Efficient with Nest plan.

Seasonal Savings is a program where the Nest Thermostat automatically fine tunes your schedule to help you use 5-10% less heating and cooling energy that season while keeping you comfortable. [For more info, see Seasonal Savings FAQ above]

I signed up for the Nest product, but I wasn’t offered Seasonal Savings through my thermostat. Why not?

Seasonal Savings won’t necessarily be available for everyone, every season. Seasonal Savings only kicks in if your Nest Thermostat finds opportunities in your schedule where small adjustments can save you energy while still keeping you comfortable. If Seasonal Savings can’t find those opportunities, or if you don’t have a schedule, then you will not get the option to try Seasonal Savings for that season.

What is Seasonal Savings and how do I sign up?

Season Savings is an exclusive benefit available to Green Mountain customers enrolled on Pollution Free Efficient with Nest. In the winter and summer, the Nest Thermostat automatically fine-tunes the temperatures in your heating and cooling schedule by a few degrees to be more efficient while keeping you just as comfortable. You can change the temperature or adjust your schedule at any time, but Nest owners with Seasonal Savings can use 5-10% less heating and cooling energy that season.

Keep in mind, Seasonal Savings won’t necessarily be available for everyone, every season.

What are carbon offsets and how do they make the shipment of the Nest greener?

Carbon offsets are greenhouse gas emissions reductions that would not have otherwise occurred. The emission reductions can be created from projects such as methane capture at landfills, reforestation, and energy efficiency. Carbon offsets can help balance out the carbon footprint of various activities, such as transportation, allowing them to have a smaller net impact on climate change. Green Mountain will pair carbon offsets with the shipment of your Nest Learning Thermostat to help balance out an estimated 330 lbs of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per shipment (actual quantity offset will vary based on location).

When will I receive my $50 discount code to Green Mountain’s Energy Saver online store?

You will receive your redemption code for your $50 discount code in your Green Mountain Welcome Kit. You can use it immediately at our online store - just enter the code during checkout. Also, don’t forget to check out our Energy Saver Center for additional tips on how to save energy day-to-day!
