Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®)

Take the lead in energy conservation. Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification, the standard in green building design, can increase your project’s efficiency and value while reducing energy costs and promoting sustainability.

LEED green building certification

Greenhouse gases trap heat, warming the planet. And with greenhouse gas emissions increasing at an unprecedented rate in our atmosphere, it’s more important than ever for businesses to look for more sustainable practices.

The LEED certification, launched by the United States Green Building Council in 1998, enables building owners to build or retrofit their existing building to meet or exceed special requirements. Green buildings emit less greenhouse gas emissions and provide healthy environments for people to live, work and thrive.

Green Mountain Energy can help businesses earn points toward LEED certification, whether they own an existing building or are constructing a new one.

LEED Existing Building, Operations and Maintenance (EB+OM) at Green Mountain Energy

At Green Mountain Energy, we align our products and services to meet LEED Existing Building, Operations and Maintenance (EB+OM) requirements to help you achieve your building’s LEED certification goals. Of the 100 total points needed to achieve LEED Platinum Certification for an existing building, 35 of those points alone come from the Energy & Atmosphere category.

LEED New Construction (NC) at Green Mountain Energy

LEED for New Construction (NC), another type of LEED certification, sets the green building standards for new construction and tenant fit-outs.

LEED V4.1 for NC now provides the option to achieve points for Electric Vehicle (EV) credits by building Level 2 Chargers or making your facility EV-ready by providing charging infrastructure (raceway/conduit) for future EV use.

On the Renewable Energy credit, the green power credit has been replaced with an off-site renewable energy option. The new credit aims to balance on-site and off-site renewable energy. Off-site options, through power purchase agreements (PPAs), are further broken down into new and existing off-site renewables, where new off-site resources are worth more than existing off-site resources. On-site resources are valued the highest of all.

We support your sustainability needs

Green Mountain Energy can help you along your LEED-certification journey in a number of ways:

  • We can provide a solar assessment to determine if on-site solar generation is a good fit for your business.
  • For customers in Texas, we offer Green-e® Energy certified renewable energy products to meet off-site renewable energy requirements.
  • Nationwide, we offer Green-e® Energy certified renewable energy certificates (RECs) that match your electricity usage with renewable generation.
