Risk Analyst

Position Summary:


Provide leadership and oversight for the risk control function. Ensure an intense focus on risk identification and management across the organization. Report compliance with Board approved risk guidelines to management and the Board. Direct the establishment and maintenance of risk guidelines and limits.

Position Responsibilities:


  • Create and maintain company risk metrics’ analysis (VaR, GMaR), generate position reports, and monitor supply function compliance to hedging limits
  • Deliver daily position analysis and risk alerts for the retail portfolios for energy, capacity, ancillaries and RECs against Risk Policy limits established by the Board
  • Ensure compliance with risk limits
  • Validate forward marks used to generate MTM operational P&L
  • Document control process from deal entry through to P&L from a risk/compliance lense and generate recommendations for control improvements
  • Document and ensure compliance with Risk Procedures
  • Perform stress-testing of P&L against market and competitor scenarios
  • Provide support to CRO in the development of the company’s enterprise risk management review
  • Prepare risk reporting, monitor risk limits and communicate risk alerts to management
  • Create and maintain compliance framework against Supply contract obligations
  • Support and manage projects including audits, best practices, quarterly reviews, implementations and procedural changes

Required Skills and Experience:


  • 5+ years energy supply risk management experience, including a working knowledge of risk measurement reporting such as VaR and Gross Margin at Risk
  • Strong understanding of energy and financial markets
  • Experience using Stochastic modeling methods (e.g., Monte Carlo simulations)
  • Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field preferred
  • Advanced user knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Access required
  • Demonstrated history of quantitative and statistical analysis
  • Effective communicator with strong decision making and problem solving skills.
