Our Leadership

Scott Hart
President of Commercial Services
Green Mountain Energy Company

Scott Hart's career has been one of leading innovation in the energy industry. Even as a young employee, Scott began to develop a vision for how the energy industry could be reinvented to better serve all of its constituents. That vision, combined with his strong character, solid work ethic and years in top-level, strategic energy industry positions propelled him to the leadership position he has today with Green Mountain Energy Company.

Before joining Green Mountain Energy Company, Scott founded Texas Commercial Energy in late 2001 to capitalize on the opportunities created when the Texas legislature passed Senate Bill 7 in November 2001, deregulating the state's energy industry.

To found Texas Commercial Energy, Scott recruited a group of Texas-based investors and energy executives to join him. All shared his belief that a new energy company could be successful if it focused on providing the market's lowest cost energy coupled with the highest level of customer service. Scott's Texas Commercial Energy team also shared his confidence that to succeed, an energy business must be led by entrepreneurs who can respond quickly to marketplace conditions and build around new, streamlined business processes.

With Scott as president, Texas Commercial Energy launched in January 2002. With more than 1,000 industrial and commercial, multi-location contracts signed through the end of August 2002, the company is well ahead of its initial business plan.

Scott's ability to plan and launch a successful new energy company is grounded on his prior, successful experience as an innovative leader for two of the largest energy companies in Texas — Lone Star Gas and Texas Utilities. For both, Scott was charged with helping shape strategies, craft initiatives and lead divisions that were the early forerunners of a deregulated Texas energy industry.

From 1996 through 2001, on behalf of Texas Utilities and TXU, Scott led a new energy services division that acquired multiple companies, acquired and managed performance contracts and reinvented energy sales and marketing. In his final position as vice president — strategy for large commercial and industrial customers, Scott was the executive in charge of development and oversight of a national expansion plan projected to grow TXU Energy Services to $8 billion in five years.

From 1988 until 1996, working for Lone Star Gas, Scott also held a variety of strategic leadership positions. As director of strategy, then general manager, of Lone Star Energy Services, Scott conceived and led a new energy services start-up operation that would later be merged with TXU Energy Services.

A native Texan, Scott Hart received a Masters of Business Administration from Baylor University and a Bachelor of Science from Tarleton State University. Hart is married with three children.
